Bag’s Take-Away:Shaking my head over the riot pix from Penn State, especially the demolishing of this TV truck. The powers-that-be can whittle away student loans, health care, the rest of the social safety net, and crash the economy out of rampant financial speculation, but mess with college football, one of the strongest opiates standing between students and what’s really happening to them beyond the stadium, and there’s hell to pay.
A grotesque understatement, perhaps, to say Penn State is pretty confused about the definition of abuse.

From my reader, Tom, in Greece (clearly with an eye to the aesthetics): “There is so much contrast — color, clothing, posture — and the other photographer looks great.” From my end (though I do love the photog’s custom riot helmet), I see: hippy punching goes international.

Introducing: Louk, the Greek Riot Dog! Riots and uprisings and demonstrations have become so embedded in cultural/political imagery, we have anthropomorphized the event. What’s next, “Squiggles, the Flood Trout”? … because water and uprisings seem to be the 2011 themes.
(FP runs a slideshow retrospective of Louk at various riots throughout the years.)
